Will Emergency Braking Ruin My Black Box Score?

One genuine emergency stop should never persuade you to avoid braking hard when safety demands it.

Keep a note if the reading looks obviously unfair

If the app marks a genuine emergency as poor driving, save the journey details while you remember the circumstances. Date, time and location are much more useful than complaining later that the score was wrong. If the event materially affects the policy, ask the insurer how it was interpreted.

One emergency stop needs context

A box can record rapid deceleration but may not know why it happened. A child stepping into the road, a vehicle pulling out or sudden stationary traffic can all require firm braking. One isolated event is very different from a pattern of approaching every junction too quickly.
